Athenas’ doubles team moves on to quarterfinals at NCAA Championships

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis No. 1 duo of senior Caroline Ward (CMC) and junior Katie Kuosman (CMC) have advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Championships doubles competition thanks to a 6-3, 6-2 win over Meg Chiumento and Lauren Hawley of Denison University in the Round of 16 on May 26.

Ward and Kuosman will play Mina Karamercan and Lauren Louks of Tufts on May 27 at 1:30 pm PT. The semifinal and final rounds will both be played Saturday, May 28.

In the singles tournament, Ward defeated Case Western's Nithya Kanagasegar in the Round of 32 in two sets 6-3, 6-4, but could not get past No. 2 Chong (Wesleyan). Ward lost 1-6, 4-6 in the Round of 16.

Kuosman fell to Lindsey Liles of Sewanee in the singles Round of 32 in a three-set match, 3-6, 6-1, 3-6.
