Athenas blank Bates

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team dominated visiting Bates College 9-0 on Friday afternoon at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center. The Athenas only gave up four games in doubles and won in straight sets in the single competition.

Sophomores Lindsay Brown (CMC) and Lauren Livingston (CMC) teamed up and blanked Emma Mattson and Emma Blakeley from Bates in No. 3 doubles, 8-0. The duos of junior Katie Kuosman (CMC) and senior Caroline Ward (CMC), and sophomore Kyla Scott (HMC) and freshman Jessie Cruz (CMC) each won 8-2 in their doubles matches.

In singles, sophomore Bria Smith (CMC) did not allow a game to be taken off of her for the 6-0, 6-0 win over Olivia Voccola. CMS clinched the match with No. 1 singles that resulted in a retirement for injury in Ward's favor.

The Athenas' solid performance today showcased the depth of the team. Each athlete seemed to improve and gain confidence as the matches continued.

Next up for CMS are two matches tomorrow, Feb. 27. The Athenas continue SCIAC play with Caltech at 10 a.m. and then wrap up with an afternoon match against Point Loma at 3 p.m.
