The Athenas take down another top 10 opponent

CLAREMONT, Calif., – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team took down their second top 10 opponent in a week as they defeated Carnegie Mellon 7-2.  With the win, CMS moves to 8-0 on the season with no opponent scoring more than three points in a match and no Division III opponent scoring more than two points in a match. 

The No. 1 doubles pair of Caroline Ward and Katie Kuosman started off the match strong for CMS with an 8-3 win over Bryn Raschke and Cori Sidell of Carnegie Mellon. The second point of the match for the Athenas came in No. 3 doubles as Lindsay Brown and Bria Smith defeated Nicholle Torres and Kati Lai of Carnegie Mellon 8-6.  Completing the sweep of the doubles for CMS was Sarah Kukino and Kyla Scott in No. 2 doubles as they defeated Vanessa Pavia and Stacy Chang.

In the singles portion of the match, Carnegie Mellon looked to fight back as Brooke Tsu defeated Brown in the No. 4 singles match 6-2, 6-1.  However, the Athenas came back strong in No. 5 singles as Scott defeated Chang 6-1, 6-2.   The Athenas kept the momentum going as Kukino defeated Torres 6-3, 6-4 in No. 3 singles while Kuosman clinched the match for CMS as she defeated Angela Pratt in No. 2 singles 6-4, 6-2.

CMS is next in action against Emory on March 13 at 6 p.m. at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center.
