Athenas land doubles team in NCAA semifinals against familiar foe

CLAREMONT, Calif. – A doubles team from the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team has made it to the semifinal round of the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Doubles Championships once again. The doubles semifinals kick off on May 24 at 11:30 a.m. with the finals set for 2 p.m., both at CMS Biszantz Family Tennis Center.

Sophomore Caroline Ward and freshman Katie Kuosman advanced through the quarters on May 23 and into Saturday's semis with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Williams' Rebecca Curran and Kara Shoemaker. Kuosman and Ward will face a familiar foe in the semifinals in Pomona-Pitzer's Samantha Chao and Lea Lynn Yen who the CMS duo defeated 8-3 in the third round of the NCAA Championships on May 11.

Should CMS' doubles team win, they would face the winner of second seeded Jordan Brewer and Gabby Devlin from Amherst or fourth-seeded Gabrielle Clark and Michelle Satterfield from Emory.

Ward played in the doubles finals in 2013 in Kalamazoo, Mich. with Kristin Lim who graduated in 2013. The doubles team of Ward and Lim lost to Brewer and Devlin from Amherst 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (6).
