New faces, same result as CMS takes down Oxy and Santa Cruz

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team put a different lineup out on the court over the weekend for its final two regular season home matches as the team, led by its seniors, won matches over Occidental (9-0) on April 12 and U.C. Santa Cruz (8-1) on April13 at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center. With the wins CMS improved to 15-7, 7-0 in SCIAC play.

CMS 9, Occidental 0 (April 12)
Against Oxy, CMS changed up its lineup from top to bottom with only one regular (senior Chloe Dobbert) playing in singles, as Dobbert competed in the No. 1 position. Dobbert defeated Keilani Ericksen 6-2, 6-3. In No. 2 singles, senior Victoria Santoro shut out her opponent with a 6-0, 6-0 win. Senior Victoria Nichols (6-3, 6-1), senior Erin Coughlan (6-0, 6-1), freshman Nikita Gettu (6-3, 6-1) and senior Sheena Patel earned victories in the third through sixth positions, respectively.

In No. 2 doubles, senior Brittan Sutphin and Patel teamed up for an 8-0 win over Jessie Hernandez and Hannah Munkacsi. Dobbert and senior Crystal Lim won their No. 1 doubles match 8-2, while Nichols and Santoro won their No. 3 doubles match over Julie Housman and Katrina Gould.

CMS 8, Santa Cruz 1 (April13)
A more familiar looking lineup took to the courts against Santa Cruz as the Athenas came away with an 8-1 win. Santa Cruz's lone point came in No. 1 doubles as Alexandra Scotten and Katy Collins defeated sophomore Caroline Ward and freshman Katie Kuosman 8-6.

Dobbert and junior Sarah Kukino in No. 2 doubles and Lim and sophomore Yvonne Likomanova in No. 3 doubles got the Athenas their first points of the day with 8-2 and 8-0 wins.

CMS then took all six singles matches, all in two sets, as Ward (No. 1), Kuosman (No. 2), Kukino (No. 3), Lim (No. 4), Likomanova (No. 5) and Santoro (No. 6) all won their individual matches.

Results

The Athenas close out SCIAC regular season play on April 19 at La Verne and then select singles participants and doubles teams head to Ojai for The Ojai Tournament April 24-27.
