Down after doubles, CMS comes back to defeat Case Western
CLAREMONT, Calif. – Down 2-1 after doubles play, the No. 5 Claremont-Mudd-Scipps women's tennis team won five of six singles matchups to earn a 6-3 win over No. 26 Case Western Reserve on March 12 at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center. CMS is now 5-5 on the season and 3-0 against NCAA Division III competition.
Case Western took two of three closely contested doubles matches in No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Freshman Katie Kuosman and sophomore Caroline Ward defeated Marianne Bonnano and Sara Zargham 8-1 in No. 1 doubles. Case Western won No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, 8-6 and 9-8 (5).
The Athenas then won singles matches in the first five positions to earn the win. Ward (6-1, 6-4), Kuosman (3-6, 6-0, 6-2), junior Sarah Kukino (7-5, 6-2), senior Crystal Lim (6-1, 6-1) and senior Chloe Dobbert (6-0, 6-4) earned wins.
CMS gets back into conference play for one day with a match at Whittier on March 14 before returning home on March 15 to face Bowdoin.
