Byun Takes SCIAC Swimmer of the Week Honors for Athenas

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Sun Young Byun earned the SCIAC Women's Swimmer of the Week Award for events through Sunday, Jan. 15, the conference office announced today.

Byun won three individual events and contributed to a relay win as CMS swept a road dual with Redlands. She took first in the 200 fly with a time of 2:08.23 (a margin of 1.99 seconds), won the 100 free in 53.82 (a margin of .51) and swam the 500 free and won by 9.29 seconds in 5:11.43. In addition, she swam the butterfly leg of a 400 medley relay team that won by 6.2 seconds (3:57.31), contributing approximately half of that time by winning her leg by almost three seconds.

Byun becomes the third Athena to win the SCIAC Swimmer of the Week honor, joining Augusta Lewis, who won last week, and Mackenzie Mayfield, who won it once in the fall. The Athenas have also had five Diver of the Week honors this season, giving them eight awards in total.

CMS will be back in action on Jan. 28 for its final SCIAC regular season competition, a tri-meet at Cal Lutheran with La Verne.
