CMS Women's Swim and Dive Wins Every Event in 235-41 Victory over Whittier

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's swimming and diving team took first place in all 16 events as it captured a 235-41 win over Whittier in a SCIAC dual meet on Saturday at Axelrood Pool.

With the win, CMS moves to 4-1 in SCIAC duals with two more league events left, including a road meet at Redlands next week and a tri-meet with Cal Lutheran and La Verne on Jan. 28. 

CMS opened with a pair of diving wins, as Makenna Parkinson was first in the one-meter with 301.20 points, and Izzy Doud took first in the three-meter with 252.08 points. Doud was also second in the one-meter, while Alexis Romero came in second in the three-meter. 

The swimming portion of the competition began with CMS finishing with the top four times in the 200-yard medley relay, led by the 1:49.04 of Jameson Mitchum, Augusta Lewis, Mackenzie Mayfield, and Annika Sharma. 

Lewis added two more individual wins on the day, taking the 200 breast and the 200 IM to give her four wins in 24 hours, after winning the 300 breast and the 300 IM yesterday at the California Baptist Distance Meet, which was her first action of the 2022-23 season. On Saturday, she took first in the 200 breast in 2:22.46, followed closely by Kelly Prawira in 2:23.95, and then won the 200 IM in the final individual race of the meet in 2:08.58. 

Ella Blake also had two wins, taking first in the 1000 free in the first individual race, finishing in 10:48.94, before adding a 53.84 to win the 100 free in the second session. Sun Young Byun was also a double-winner, taking the 100 back in the first session in 59.36 seconds, and then winning the 100 fly in the second session in 57.05. 

Mayfield took first in the 200 free in 1:57.14, Prawira won the 100 breast in 1:07.61, Annie Johnson had a dominant 10-second win in the 200 fly in 2:10.59, and Annika Sharma capped off the first session with a 24.86 to come in first in the 50 free. 

After the intermission, Blake earned her second win, Quinn Katayama-Stall captured the 200 back by 12 seconds in 2:16.80, and Mitchum earned a win in the 500 free in 5:24.29, before Byun and Lewis took home their second individual wins. 

CMS closed out the meet with the top four times in the 200 yard freestyle relay, with Mayfield, Byun, Blake and Prawira earning the winning time of 1:41.00, edging out teammates Lexi Lee, Katy Shaw, Jade Saunders and Ally Rudolph by just .24 seconds. 

The Athenas head to Redlands next week looking to pick up another SCIAC dual win with the league championships a month away in February.
