Dang Breaks CMS 200 Fly Record at NCAA Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Katelyn Dang set a new CMS program record in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:02.58, breaking a mark that had stood for 10 years, to highlight the performance of the CMS women's swimming and diving team on the third day of the NCAA Division III Championships at IU Natatorium.

Dang came in 11th place overall, providing six points for the CMS total, swimming a 2:03.90 in prelims, but knocking almost a second and a half off that time in the night session, finishing in 2:02.58. That eclipsed the old school mark of 2:03.80, which had stood since Michele Kee set it in 2012. 

Jameson Mitchum also earned an 11th place finish for the Athenas in the 100 back, finishing in 55.91 seconds, moving her up to third on the CMS all-time list. She still has the 200 back tomorrow, an event in which she holds the Athena record with a 2:00.70. 

The Athenas added one more 11th place to cap off the day's action, as the 800-yard freestyle relay team of Augusta Lewis, Natalia Orbach-Mandel, Leila El Masri and Ella Blake finished in 7:31.24. 

Heading into the final day tomorrow, CMS stands in tenth place with 118.50 points. The Athenas will try to solidify their top-10 standing with six more events to go. In addition to Mitchum in the 200 back, Augusta Lewis is the No. 5 seed in the 200-yard breaststroke, and Ella Blake and Gracey Hiebert are seeded No. 18 and No. 19 in the 1650.
