CMS Women's Swim and Dive Opens SCIAC with 150-Point Win over Occidental

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's swimming and diving team won 14 of 16 events, including three from All-American Augusta Lewis, as it opened up SCIAC competition with a 219-69 win over Occidental on Saturday afternoon at Axelrood Pool.

With the win, CMS begins defense of its 2019-20 SCIAC Championship at 1-0 in the regular season, while moving to 1-1 overall (with the defeat to Division I UC San Diego).

Lewis won the 200 breast, the 200 IM and added a win in the 200 fly in 207:33, tying her for seventh all-time in CMS history. Lewis, the two-time SCIAC Swimmer of the Year, holds the school record in the 200 IM and 400 IM and places second in the 200 breast, as she continued to add her name all over the CMS record book.

CMS began the day by taking first place in the 200 medley relay, with Jameson Mitchum, Rachel Wander, Katelyn Dang and Natalia Orbach-Mandel finishing in 1:48.91.

Ella Blake then took first in the first individual event of the meet, winning the 1000 free in 10:51.29. After Sarah Radle won the 200 free for one of the rare Occidental wins, Mitchum took the 100 back in under a minute (59:32), Kelly Prawira won the 100 breaststroke, Lewis took the 200 fly, and Ava Sealander won the 50 free to give CMS four straight victories heading into the first intermission.

Emma Ng Pack finished a sweep of the diving events during the swimming intermission by adding the three-meter title to the one-meter to start the day. Radle won her second event for Occidental in the 100 free, but Sammy Ennis took the 200 back, Lewis won the 200 breast, Gracey Hiebert captured the individual title in the 500 free, and Dang took the 100 fly.

After the final intermission, Lewis took the 200 IM and the Athenas put the finishing touches on their meet with a close win in the 400 free relay (by .9 seconds) with Dang, Blake, Hiebert and Orbach-Mandel.

CMS will be back in action next week for a tri-meet at Chapman, which will also include Caltech.
