Kimiko Adler Finishes Fifth in One-Meter to Lead CMS Women's Divers on Day Two of SCIAC Championships

CLAREMONT, Calif. - For the second straight day, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's diving team had three first-year divers qualify for the finals, with a different one emerging as the top Athena, as Kimiko Adler came in fifth-place (out of 20) on the second day of the SCIAC Championships at Axelrood Pool.

In addition to Adler's top-five finish, first-year Makenna Parkinson was in sixth place, one day after coming in fourth place in the three-meter for CMS. First-year Karena Klinkenberg also made it into the finals for CMS and came in ninth, reaching the finals in both events in her first career SCIAC Championship. 

Parkinson had the highest point total for CMS in prelims with a 363.70, with Adler right behind with 358.90 points. Klinkenberg safely qualified for the finals with 299.15 points, finishing over 30 points ahead of the cutoff to advance through to the afternoon. 

In the finals, Adler came through with 211 points to just edge out Parkinson in the final point total, 358.90 to 349.00 in a close battle between the teammates. Samantha Scarano of Redlands finished first with 422.80 points, while Emma Van Der Veen of Pomona-Pitzer finished as a close runner-up for the second day in a row with 419.85 points. 

The swimming portion of the SCIAC Swimming and Diving Championships will get underway on Thursday, as all nine SCIAC teams head to Commerce, California for the four-day event, as the Athenas will try to win back the league title that Pomona-Pitzer earned a season ago.
