Dominant Effort from Augusta Lewis Leads CMS Women's Swimming and Diving to 200-153 Dual Win over Pomona-Pitzer

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Sophomore Augusta Lewis, the reigning SCIAC Swimmer of the Year, won three individual events on the second day of a dual meet with Pomona-Pitzer, including breaking the Haldeman Pool record by nine seconds in the 400 IM, to lead the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's swimming and diving team to a 200-153 win over the Sagehens in a battle of the top two programs in the SCIAC.

Lewis finished the two-day event with four individual wins, taking the 200 IM yesterday and the winning the 400 IM, the 100 breast and the 200 breast today. Her 400 IM time of 4:24.74 was almost nine seconds better than the old Haldeman Pool record (4:33.23), and was just over a second behind her CMS record, which she set when she captured the SCIAC Championship in the event last year. 

In addition to her 400 IM, Lewis also won both breaststroke events, including setting a personal best in the 200, winning in 2:17.24 to move into second place on the all-time CMS list and setting a new pool record, which gives her the facility marks at both Axelrood Pool and Haldeman Pool after setting the Axelrood one in her last meet. She also won the 100 breast with a time of 1:03.99, moving her into third place on the CMS all-time list in that event, which she didn't compete in last season. 

The Athenas began the day with a win in the 200 medley relay, as junior Natalia Orbach-Mandel anchored CMS to the win in 1:45.12, with junior Stephanie Lewis swimming the backstroke, first-year Suzanne Starzyk swimming the breaststroke and sophomore Ava Sealander swimming the butterfly. Sealander also earned an individual win in the 100 fly with a 55.75.

Christina Campbell won the 200 back in 2:03.88, which sets a Haldeman Pool record and puts her in third place all-time at CMS. First-year Ella Blake added a win in the 1650 in 17:47.70, finishing first by a comfortable margin of 12 seconds, adding to her win total from the weekend after also taking the 500 yesterday. 

In the one-meter dive, senior Jacque Desmond, who graduates this month, competed in her final event for the Athenas and took first place in the three-meter, winning with a final score of 268.90 over six dives.

CMS will be back in action after the new year when it travels to participate in the Cal Baptist Distance Meet on Friday, Jan. 10, before traveling to La Verne for a SCIAC contest on Saturday, Jan. 11.
