CMS Women's Swimming Diving Jumps to No. 11 in Latest National Poll

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's swimming and diving team moved up four spots to No. 11 in the nation in the latest Division III poll from the College Swimming and Diving and Coaches Association of America, the organization announced this morning.

CMS began the year ranked No. 15 in the preseason poll, but moved up four places after a strong showing in its first two meets, a road defeat at Division II power UC San Diego, and a road win over Caltech in its SCIAC opener.

The Athenas return seven swimmers who competed at the NCAA Division III Championships, including three who qualified in individual events. Sophomore Augusta Lewis competed in the 200 and 400 IM and the 200 breast at nationals last year, while winning both the SCIAC Swimmer of the Year and SCIAC Newcomer of the Year honors. Sophomore Ava Sealander was a national qualifier in the 100 fly, placing ninth in the nation in the regular season, while junior Mia Syme, who is currently studying abroad, qualified in both distance events.

CMS will be back in action this weekend for its first home event of the 2019-20 season, welcoming in Chapman and Cal Lutheran for a tri-meet at Axelrood Pool, which gets underway with the diving events at 10 a.m.
