Women’s team comes up short against Cal Baptist

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's swim and dive team saw two top finishes in the annual dual meet with Cal Baptist on Friday afternoon. The Athenas kept the competition close through the first eight events but then were unable to maintain momentum to close the gap near the end for the 150-93 final score.

Sophomore Emma Stacy (SC) captured the first win for CMS in the 200-yard freestyle (1:59.60).

In the subsequent race, senior Kelly Ngo (CMC) was .24 seconds off the Lancers' Hannah Evans, the first place finisher in the 50-yard freestyle (24.94). Ngo came back four events later to beat Evans in the 100-yard freestyle (53.91) for the other top finish for CMS.

The Athenas placed second in both relays in the afternoon, started by freshmen Liv Baker (CMC) and Claire Bacon-Brenes (SC) who joined seniors Stephanie Doi (CMC) and Ngo in the 500-yard medley relay (5:21.18). Stacy and Doi were also members of the second-place finishing team in the 500-yard freestyle relay with sophomore Madison Blumer (SC) and junior Lauren Rosenberger (CMC) to wrap up the meet (4:47.37).

Three more second place swims earned the Athenas points against the Lancers: junior Elizabeth Carrade (CMC) in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:56.15), freshman Ivy Chen (HMC) in the 300-yard backstroke (3:21.01), and senior Emily McKinnon (CMC) in the 300-yard breaststroke (3:47.67).

In the middle of the meet, junior Maia Presti (SC) executed on the 1-meter diving board, good for 251.65 points and second place as well.

CMS resumes SCIAC competition tomorrow, Saturday, Jan. 7, hosting a dual meet against Chapman with the diving beginning at 10 a.m.
