Ngo finishes 17th in 100 free at NCAAs; Stags place 10th
GREENSBORO, N.C. – For the fourth-straight season, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's swimming team secured a top-10 finish at the NCAA Division III Championships. This season, the Stags wrapped up the four-day NCAA Championships which ended on March 19, with a 10th place finish (121.50).
A day after winning the 100-yard backstroke national championship, junior All-American Matthew Williams (CMC) had another All-America swim and nearly won another title, this time in the 200-yard backstroke (1:46.11). He touched the wall in second place, one-one hundredth of a second slower than Denison's Jackson Lindell.
The 2016 Championships came to a close with the 400 free relay as senior Joseph Hinton (CMC), Williams, senior Matthew Valentine (HMC) and sophomore Noah Deer (CMC) finished seventh in the consolation finals (15th overall) with a time of 3:03.04 for honorable mention All-America accolades.
Earlier in the day, junior Kelly Ngo (CMC) finished 17th nationally in the 100 free with a prelim time of 51.42 for the Athenas. Similar to Ngo, Deer just missed the consolation finals with a preliminary time of 45.27 in the 100-yard freestyle. Overall he finished 17th nationally in the event.
