Swim teams hit the pool for first practice of 2014-15 season

CLAREMONT, Calif.  – With fall sports in full gear, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps swimming and diving teams’ first practice of the 2014-15 season on Monday, Sept. 29, served as a reminder that winter sports are right around the corner. The teams now have just under a month to prepare for their first meet of the season which is on Saturday, Oct. 25 at UC San Diego.

“We’re excited to start the 2014-15 season,” said head coach Charlie Griffiths. “We’re fortunate to have talent in all four classes and I’m looking forward to seeing how our veterans set an example of excellence for our newcomers.”

There are a total of 57 student-athletes on this year’s teams (30 Athenas and 27 Stags). Of the 30 Athenas, 23 are returners, while the Stags bring back 19 to the squad.

The men are coming off their seventh-straight SCIAC championship and a seventh place finish at the NCAA Championships. The Stags have won 34 SCIAC championships overall. The Athenas are coming off their 12th-straight SCIAC championship and a 13th place finish at Nationals. 2013-14 marked the 16th SCIAC championship for the Athenas.
