Moving day for Athenas at NCAA Championships as they jump to 13th

SHENANDOAH, Texas – Once again, relays carried the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's swimming & diving team at the NCAA Division III Championships, as CMS jumped nine spots from 22nd to 13th after the second day of competition, March 19, at the Conroe ISD Natatorium. CMS now has 42 points over the first two days. Emory leads the overall field.

Sophomore Kelly Ngo, senior LillyBelle Deer, sophomore Stephanie Doi and freshman Lorea Gwo were back at it in the relays on Day 2, as they combined in the 200-yard freestyle relay for a ninth place honorable mention All-America overall finish, first in the consolation final. After swimming the event in 1:35.30 in the morning, the team topped their time in the evening with a time of 1:34.78.

Individually, Doi swam in the 100-yard butterfly preliminaries and finished in 57.52 for 34th overall. Just over one-tenth of a second behind Doi was Gwo who touched the wall in 57.65.

The 400-yard medley relay closed out the day for the Athenas and Ngo, sophomore Emily McKinnon, Gwo and sophomore Kayla Flaten swam their way to an 11th place finish with a time of 3:50.32. The CMS relay team finished third in the consolation final, earning them All-America honorable mention status.

The Athenas are back in action on March 20 with preliminaries set for 10 a.m. and session 2 at 6 p.m., CST.
