CMS Tops Cal Lu

The CMS Stags and Athenas swept the California Lutheran University Kingsmen and Regals in SCIAC dual meet action on Saturday.

Sophomore Cameron Whiting recorded a pair of personal records while winning the 50 and 100 yard freestyle events.  Whiting's 21.77 in the 50 sprint and 47.36 in the 100 topped the field.  "Those times surprised everyone," according to Coach Charlie Griffiths. "Cameron had never been under 22.0 or 48.0, so he enjoyed a breakthrough day."

Junior Michele Kee was a double winner for the Athenas.  Kee won the 200 IM and the 100 butterfly in back-to-back events.

Other individual winners for the Athenas were:  Kristie Howard (50 FS), Carmen Lundell (3-meter diving), Olivia Graham (100 FS), Erin MacLean (100 backstroke), Maddy Gebhard (100 breaststroke)

Julian Laguisma earned his first win on the season, taking top honors on the 3-meter springboard.  Freshman Conrad Shabb also impressed, narrowly missing a spot on the CMS all-time Top 10 list, posting 16:24.54 in the 1650 free.  Additionally, Marc Blumberg won the 200 free, Zach Alleva (200 IM), Patrick Shultz (100 butterfly), Joe Hinton (100 backstroke), Devin Nishizaki (500 freestyle).

The Athenas won both relays with the team of Ali Fisher, Mackenzie Marrs, Annika Jessen and Howard winning the 200 medley, with MacLean, Kee, Helen Liu and Dana Shaker taking the 200 free relay. The Stags ended the meet with a 200 free relay win by Alleva, Hinton, Whiting and Blake Weber.

CMS will host Chapman University and Occidental College in a double-dual meet on Saturday, January 18.
