SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The No. 9 Trinity University women's soccer team got on the board in the 15th minute and held on the rest of the way as it took a 1-0 win over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Sunday.
With the loss, CMS concludes its non-conference schedule with a 1-2-1 record heading into the start of SCIAC play this week.
CMS had the first chance of the game on Sunday, as Laurel Ovenell had her shot saved off a corner kick in the 12th minute. Just over two minutes later, Emily Hayes scored what turned out to be the game's only goal for the Tigers.
Tori Holden had a bid to the score late, but had her shot saved in the 83rd minute. Sadie Brown had a strong effort in goal to give CMS a chance, finishing the game with eight saves, while the Athenas added a defensive save in the 89th minute to keep it a 1-0 final.
The Athenas will open SCIAC play at Cal Lutheran on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Last year, CMS traveled to Thousand Oaks and came away with a 2-1 win in the SCIAC Semifinals to advance through to the league championship game.
