Emma Fogg Earns Second-Team All-Region Honors from United Soccer Coaches, Helfrich on Third Team

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Claremont-Mudd-Scripps sophomore center back Emma Fogg earned a spot on the United Soccer Coaches Division III All-Region X team, the organization announced this week, while sophomore midfielder Kaitlyn Helfrich was selected to the third team.

Fogg, who was also a first-team All-SCIAC selection, earned a spot on a region team that included colleges from the Northwest Conference (NWC), the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) and the American Southwest Conference (ASC). She was one of seven SCIAC athletes to earn their way on to one of the two All-Region X teams.

Fogg was a mainstay of a CMS defense that produced 10 shutouts during the regular season, including two against nationally ranked teams (a 1-0 win over No. 6 MIT and a 0-0 tie with Pomona-Pitzer). She was twice named the SCIAC Defensive Player of the Week, once after a two-assist game against Whittier, the second of which produced the tying goal in the closing minutes that clinched a SCIAC Tournament bid for the Athenas. She also earned it after a 2-0-1 week with three shutouts in which the Athenas allowed only two shots on goal in their two SCIAC wins over Whittier and Caltech.

Helfrich, meanwhile, earned all-region honors for the second straight season, after capturing first-team All-Region X accolades last year. She led CMS in scoring for the second year in a row with five goals and two assists, with two goals in the 3-3 tie with Whittier, including the tying goal off the pass from Fogg that clinched the SCIAC bid. She also assisted on the CMS goal in a 1-1 tie with Cal Lutheran and scored twice in a game against Carleton.

The Athenas finished the 2022 season in third in the SCIAC standings and advanced to the league championship game for the first time since winning the title in 2016 after defeating second-seeded Cal Lutheran in the semifinals.
