CMS Women's Soccer Plays to 1-1 Draw with Chapman

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Caelyn Smith converted on a penalty kick midway through the second half as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's soccer team was able to come away with a 1-1 tie against Chapman on Wednesday afternoon at Pritzlaff Field.

With the tie, CMS moves to 3-4-1 on the season, and 1-1-1 in the SCIAC, while Chapman has earned ties in all three of its SCIAC matches so far.

Chapman took a 1-0 lead early in the second half, but CMS was able to answer when Nithya Yeluri was fouled inside the penalty area after trying to get on the back end of a through ball from Kaityln Helfrich. Smith then stepped up to take the penalty kick, and slotted it home to draw the Athenas even at 1-1.

Neither team could break the tie in the final 25 minutes, as shots ended up 9-6 in favor of the Athenas.  Sadie Brown had three saves for CMS, while Maia Mills had four for the Panthers.

CMS will be back in action on Saturday when it takes on Occidental in a road contest.
