CMS Women's Soccer Defeats Williams 1-0 to win Manchester College Cup

Manchester, Vt. - Jihae Oh scored on a 25-yard shot midway through the second half to give the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's soccer team a 1-0 win over Williams on Sunday on the second day of the Manchester College Cup, hosted by Castleton.

With the win, CMS improves to 2-3 on the season, including 2-0 on its Manchester trip after also defeating No. 6 MIT yesterday 1-0. Williams defeated Castleton 2-0 yesterday, which put the two winners against each other for the tournament title, and Oh's goal in the 64th minute held up as the game-winner.

Sadie Brown had seven saves to get her second straight shutout, including four in the final 20 minutes as Williams pushed forward looking for an equalizer. She had a big sequence in the 72nd minute when she saved a shot from Brianna Binder over the line for a corner kick, and then saved a shot from Maria Chapman off the ensuing corner.

Brown had her final save with 7:08 to go, and the Athenas were able to see out the final seven minutes without giving the Ephs another attempt.

Williams had an 18-5 edge in shots, but CMS put all five of its attempts on frame, including Oh's goal. Annie McKinley, who had the game-winning goal in yesterday's 1-0 win over MIT off a corner kick, almost had another in the second half, but had her shot cleared off the line by a Williams defender, and Laurel Ovenell's shot off the ensuing corner was saved by goalie Margaret Huelin. Cate Lewison and Nicole Oberlag also had shots saved by Huelin in the first half.

CMS will return to action on Wednesday when it hosts Redlands in its SCIAC opener, which begins at 7 p.m.
