CMS Women's Soccer Falls to La Verne for First Defeat of 2021

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's soccer team dropped its first game of the 2021 season when it fell 2-0 to La Verne on Saturday night at Pritzlaff Field.

Reagan Appleby scored both La Verne goals, one in each half, as the Leopards improved to 1-5 overall and 1-1 in the SCIAC. CMS slips to 4-1 overall and 1-1 in league play with the loss. 

CMS finished with a 16-10 advantage in shots, but couldn't beat La Verne goalkeeper McKenzie Maggiore, who had eight saves to get the shutout. Athena Manthouli had five saves but took the loss for the Athenas.

Ava Sherry, Kaityln Helfrich and Ava Schmitt each had three shots for CMS. Appleby scored on both of her shots for the Leopards. 

CMS will look to bounce back from its first defeat of the 2021 season when it hosts Chapman on Wednesday night for a 7 p.m. contest.
