CMS Women's Soccer Picks Up Second Straight Road Tie, Draws Redlands 1-1

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's soccer team earned a point on its second straight tough road test, coming away with a 1-1 double-overtime tie at Redlands on Wednesday evening.

With the tie, CMS now stands at 5-1-2 overall and 1-1-2 in SCIAC play, after also coming away with a 1-1 tie at Cal Lutheran on Saturday. Redlands moves to 4-3-3 overall and 1-1-3 in the league.

Senior midfielder Gabby Clouse scored the game's first goal in the 16th minute for the Athenas, breaking in alone down the right sideline at the 15:19 mark for her third goal of the season. CMS dominated the first half, outshooting Redlands 12-1, holding an 8-2 edge in corner kicks, and forcing four saves from starting goalie Brittany Dinkins.

The match was played on more level terms in the second half, and Redlands was able to break through with a late equalizer. With just 6:31 left to play, Taylor Pisan took a short pass from Abby Norquist and scored from 20 yards out to make it a 1-1 contest.

Redlands carried the momentum into overtime, holding a 6-1 shot advantage over the two extra sessions, but sophomore goalie Athena Manthouli was up to the task, making three of her five saves after regulation to come away with her second tie in as many starts.

CMS finished the game with an 18-13 edge in shots and a 10-7 advantage in corner kicks. Senior midfielder Rhiann Holman had a team-high five shots and first-year forward Vida Hasson added three.

The Athenas will be back in action at home on Saturday when they take on Whittier for a 7 p.m. contest.
