CMS Women's Soccer Plays to Scoreless Draw at Occidental

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Sophomore goalie Claire Hamson had three saves to get her fifth shutout of the year, including her second in a row, as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's soccer team played to a 0-0 tie with Occidental on Saturday evening in a road SCIAC contest.

With the tie, the Athenas now stand at 6-3-1 overall and 4-2-1 in the SCIAC. Occidental remains undefeated on the year at 5-0-3, including 4-0-3 in SCIAC play.

Opportunities were hard to come by for either side, as Occidental held an 11-10 edge in shots and a 5-0 edge in corner kicks. Junior Rhiann Holman led CMS with four shot attempts, while junior Gabrielle Clouse and freshman Nicole Oberlag each had two.

The closest opportunities for either team came in the opening 10 minutes. Holman had her first shot of the game saved by Occidental goalie Sydney Tomlinson just two minutes in, and then Rachel Kolpa hit the crossbar for Occidental in the eighth minute. C

louse had a shot in the second overtime saved by Tomlinson, while Hamson picked up two of her four saves in the second extra session as well. The CMS back four, led by senior center backs Sydney Talmi and Catherine Leon, defended well and held the Tigers to only two shots on goal in regulation.

CMS will be back in action on Wednesday when it travels to Caltech for another SCIAC match.
