Three Athenas named to All-West Region Team

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Soccer Coaches Association of America listed three members from the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's soccer program on the All-West Region Teams on Wednesday, honoring the standout players during the Athenas' NCAA Tournament run. Seniors Laynee Laube (CMC), Amy Johnson (CMC), and junior Jacey Coniff (HMC) earned a spot on the All-West Region Second Team after their outstanding performances during the regular and postseason. This marks the first time all three of these athletes earned this award.

Laube scored three goals during the SCIAC Tournament and was a persistent threat on the ball during the NCAA Tournament. She was the first Athena in seven years to score in double digits in a single season, totaling 11 goals in her final year.

Johnson gave opponents problems on both sides of the fields, breaking up the opposing offense and igniting the Athenas' counter. Her ability to hold possession and distribute the ball anywhere on the field earned her the recognition as one of the top midfielders in the west region.

Coniff had a breakout year on the defensive end, helping the Athenas to 10 shutouts. She played a significant role in keeping the then-undefeated Pacific Lutheran scoreless in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to help the Athenas to their first NCAA win in seven years.
