SCIAC Women’s Soccer Postseason Tournament Preview

CLAREMONT, Calif. – By winning the sixth regular season conference championship in program history, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's soccer team earned the top seed into the four-team SCIAC Postseason Tournament which gets underway on Wednesday, Nov. 5. As the No. 1 seed, CMS (13-6-1, 10-4) hosts fourth-seeded Redlands (10-6-2, 7-5-2) in the semifinal match at 7 p.m. CMS is the defending SCIAC Tournament champion, having won the tournament in 2013 with wins at Pomona-Pitzer (1-0) and at Cal Lutheran (1-0) to advance to the NCAA Championships.

Wednesday, Nov. 5
No. 4 Redlands at No. 1 CMS – 7 p.m. (Pritzlaff Field)
No. 3 Pomona-Pitzer at No. 2 Cal Lutheran – 7 p.m.

Saturday, Nov. 8
Winner of CMS/Redlands vs. winner of Cal Lu/Pomona-Pitzer – Time TBD*

*Match played at highest remaining seed

Ticket prices for admission to SCIAC Postseason Tournament matches are set by the conference and are as follows:

  • Spectators w/ Current SCIAC ID (Students, Faculty, Staff) – Free
  • Children 12 and under – Free
  • All others - $5

TEAMS

No. 1 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athenas (13-6-1, 10-4 SCIAC)
The Athenas are in search of the fifth SCIAC Postseason Tournament championship in school history. CMS is 3-3 on the season against teams in the SCIAC Tournament field including a 3-0 record at home. CMS is 1-1 against each of the teams in the field. The Athenas are led offensively by sophomore midfielder Makella Brems (8 goals, 3 assists) and junior midfielder Darrah Shields (7 goals, 6 assists).

No. 2 California Lutheran Regals (12-5-3, 9-3-2 SCIAC)
The Regals were the top seed in the 2013 SCIAC Tournament but lost to CMS in the finals. Cal Lu is 3-1-2 this season against the tournament field going 1-1 against CMS, 2-0 against Redlands and 0-0-2 against Pomona-Pitzer. Cal Lu is led by Kali Youngdahl (6 goals) and Katie Moyer (4 goals, 4 assists).

No. 3 Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens (10-5-4, 8-2-4 SCIAC)
Pomona-Pitzer is 2-1-3 this year against the tournament field going 1-0-1 against Redlands, 0-0-2 against Cal Lu and 1-1 against CMS. Freshman midfielder Abby Onderwyzer Gold leads Pomona-Pitzer with six goals while two players have each scored five goals.

No. 4 Redlands Bulldogs (10-6-2, 7-5-2 SCIAC)
Redlands is 1-4-1 this year against the tournament field going 0-1-1 against Pomona-Pitzer, 0-2 against Cal Lu and 1-1 against CMS. The Bulldogs are led by Lihini Weerasinghe (6 goals, 3 assists) and Kate Frame (5 goals, 1 assist).
