Athenas win sixth SCIAC Championship

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's soccer team secured their sixth SCIAC title despite losing the final game of the regular season. The Athenas (13-6-1, 10-4 SCIAC) tied their record of most conference wins, most recently in 2009 when they also won the regular season championship.

Going into Saturday's match up with Pomona-Pitzer, CMS led SCIAC by just one point requiring either an Athena win or for the No. 2 seed, Cal Lutheran, to lose or tie in order to claim the title. CMS lost 2-0 to Pomona-Pitzer and CLU lost to Chapman 1-0.

The Athenas host No. 4 seed, Redlands, at 7 p.m. on Wednesday night, Nov. 5 in the SCIAC semi-final. Cal Lu hosts Pomona-Pitzer in the other semi-final game on the same night. The final will be played at the highest remaining seed's home field on Saturday, Nov. 8.

In the last meeting with Redlands, CMS shut out the Bulldogs 2-0.
