Home-opener ends in double overtime 0-0 draw for CMS against Lewis & Clark

CLAREMONT, Calif. – Five matches into the season and the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's soccer team has shut out its opponents four times, allowing just one goal. The team's excellent defensive play continued on Saturday, but the offense could not find the back of the net, as CMS and Lewis & Clark played a double overtime, 0-0 draw on Sept. 13 at Pritzlaff Field in the home-opener for CMS. With the tie, CMS is now 3-1-1, while Lewis & Clark is 1-1-2.

Lewis & Clark goalie Geena Fong was up to the task, coming up with 17 saves in the match. CMS had one goal taken off the board in the first half because of an offside.

After struggling to get any shots off for the entirety of regulation, Lewis & Clark had its best opportunity to score in the 90th minute, just before the end of regulation, as Annelise Coxeff booted a shot off the crossbar with 35 seconds left in regulation.

In the first overtime, CMS sophomore midfielder Makella Brems, junior midfielder Darrah Shields and senior forward Isabel Lester all got shots off that sailed high as both teams were unable to score.
