Athenas battle against the elements for win over Whittier

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's soccer team beat Whittier College 1-0 under the lights on Wednesday night.  Both teams slipped and slid their way through the game but the Athenas had more control of the ball and came out on top.

Afternoon rain in Claremont left the field soggy but playable for tonight's SCIAC contest.  Whittier came into the game looking for their first win overall and in conference while the Athenas were battling to get into the top four in SCIAC.

The Athenas' offense kept the ball in Whittier's half and amassed nine shots but could not score during the first 45 minutes of play.

Eleven minutes into the second half, senior F Kerry Moller delivered for CMS by scoring what ended up being the only goal of the game.  This was her second goal of the season.

The Athenas were plagued by offside calls throughout the game but did not tone down their aggressiveness.

After tonight's win, CMS bumps up to fourth place in SCIAC standings.

The Athenas host Chapman University this coming Saturday (10/12) at 11am on Pritzlaff Field.
