CLAREMONT, Calif. - Six different players scored three goals, and four others added two, as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's lacrosse team earned a 27-4 win over Cal Lutheran on Saturday at Zinda Field.
With the win, CMS moves to 8-3 overall and 6-1 in the SCIAC, while Cal Lutheran slips to 4-9 overall and 2-6 in league play.
As a team, the Athenas came into the contest ranked sixth in the nation in goals per game (17.3), accomplishing it with balance, as no individual even ranked in the top 200 in goals scored. They followed a similar pattern with 11 different goal scorers on Saturday, with nobody having more than three.
Cal Luthean scored first, but CMS then rattled off 11 goals in a row for an 11-1 lead. Murphy, Minturn and Daetz scored the first three in a span of 30 seconds, and then Ulmer scored three in a row over a span of 1:26 to make it 6-1 just 3:55 into the game.
After Hansot made it 11-1, the Regals scored the next three goals to make it 11-4 going into the second, but the Athenas shut down on defense from there and didn't allow a goal the rest of the way. Lyla Johnston had three saves in 30 minutes without allowing a goal, playing the second and third quarters.
Murphy led CMS with three ground balls, while Conte caused three turnovers, and Emmy Lo added two.
CMS will be back in action on Wednesday when it hosts Whittier for a 7 p.m. contest.
