Cate Lewison Takes SCIAC Defensive Player of the Week Honors for CMS Women's Lacrosse

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Cate Lewison of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's lacrosse team earned the SCIAC Defensive Player of the Week Award for games through Sunday, April 2, the league office announced today.

Lewison helped the Athenas pull away from Chapman for a 17-10 win on Wednesday in a game that was tight in the second half (8-6). She had seven ground balls and four caused turnovers for CMS, as well as four draw controls and two free position goals. After the score was cut to two, CMS scored to make it 9-6 and then Lewison caused a turnover and picked up the ensuing ground ball to lead to a goal, followed by another ground ball that led to another goal to make it 11-6 at the end of the third and swing the momentum back to the Athenas.

Lewison becomes the second award winner for CMS so far this season, joining Bella Lynch, who was the Offensive Player of the Week following wins over Whittier and Occidental during opening week.

CMS will be back in action on Wednesday night when it hosts Redlands for a 7 p.m. contest.
