CMS Women's Lacrosse Falls in First Game of East Coast Trip to No. 15 Wesleyan

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - Bella Lynch scored a pair of goals for the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's lacrosse team, but the No. 15-ranked Wesleyan Cardinals were able to take control in the first half and capture a 17-3 win over the Athenas on Wednesday afternoon.

The game was the first of a two-game road trip for CMS, which defeated Illinois Wesleyan 22-1 at home on Monday night, flew to Connecticut on Tuesday and then faces both Wesleyan and No. 12 The College of New Jersey on Friday, finishing a busy week of three games in five days.

Lynch scored her first goal in the opening minutes to tie the score 1-1, scoring off a feed from Olivia Carey. The Athenas then went into a scoring drought that lasted until the closing minutes, when Tessa Guerra scored an unassisted tally. Lynch capped off the CMS scoring off another feed from Carey.

McKenna Likins had three caused turnovers to lead the Athena defense, while Maisy Mills and Carey each had two ground balls. Starting goalie Kendall Chapko and back-up Holly Shankle each had five saves.

CMS will return to action on Friday at The College of New Jersey, and then get two weeks off before hosting Colorado College on Sunday, April 3.
