CMS Women's Lacrosse Cruises Past Illinois Wesleyan 22-1 for Fifth Straight Win

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Alex Futterman had three goals and four assists and eight Athenas had multi-goal games as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's lacrosse team earned its fifth straight victory with a 22-1 win over Illinois Wesleyan on Monday evening at Zinda Field.

With the win, CMS improves to 5-1 on the year, with the five straight wins all coming with 20 or more goals (including the last four with exactly 22). Illinois Wesleyan falls to 1-5 on the year with the loss.

It took CMS less than nine minutes to build a 10-0 lead in the first quarter, and the Athenas stretched the lead up to 18-0 at the half. Illinois Wesleyan scored the first goal of the second half, ending a stretch where CMS had outscored its last three opponents 48-0, including a 22-0 shutout win over Cal Lutheran on Wednesday, and the final eight goals in a 22-3 win over Redlands.

Tessa Guerra, Emme McMullen and Abby Parrish also had three-goal games, with Parrish adding two assists to tally five points. Bella Lynch had two goals and two assists, Olivia Carey and Catherine Murphy each had two goals and an assist, and Maggie Griffis also had two goals. Alicia Lamkin tallied three assists for a CMS team that assisted on 15 of its 22 goals.

Defensively, the SCIAC Defensive Player of the Week, McKenna Likins, kept her big season going with five caused turnovers and five ground balls. Murphy and Carey also had three ground balls, while Murphy and Futterman each had six draw controls, helping CMS to a dominant 22-3 edge in that category.

CMS will be back in action this week when it travels to the Northeast to take on two nationally ranked teams, facing Wesleyan on Wednesday and The College of New Jersey on Friday.
