CMS Women's Lacrosse Keeps Offense Rolling, Takes Down Redlands 22-3

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Alex Futterman had five goals and Olivia Carey and Catherine Murphy each had four goals and an assist as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's lacrosse team broke 20 goals for the third straight game with a 22-3 win over Redlands on Saturday in its home opener at Zinda Field.

With the win, CMS improves to 3-1 on the season, all in conference games, including 20-11 over Chapman last Saturday and 22-8 over Occidental on Wednesday, while Redlands slips to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in league play.

The Athenas broke the game open quickly, scoring six times before five minutes had elapsed. Bella Lynch opened the scoring 31 seconds in, and Taylor Daetz added one just 41 seconds later. Murphy and Carey each scored their first in succession, before Lynch tallied her second, and Futterman scored her first at the 10:19 mark of the first quarter to make it a 6-0 lead.

Futterman added her second and Murphy added hers before Redlands got on the board at the 3:48 mark of the first to make the score 8-1. Murphy finished off a first-quarter hat trick, and Carey added her second to close out the first quarter.

Macie Gruver added a pair of second-half goals, while Emme McMullen scored once in each half. Rachel Leonardi and Alicia Lamkin also had goals for the Athenas. Kendall Chapko played the first half and had six saves to get the win for the Athenas.

CMS will return to action when it hosts Cal Lutheran on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. contest.
