Corie Hack Scores 200th Goal, CMS Women's Lacrosse Caps Off Unbeaten Regular Season in SCIAC

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Senior Corie Hack celebrated her Senior Day by becoming only the third player in program history to score 200 career goals, and the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's lacrosse team capped off its third straight unbeaten SCIAC regular season at 10-0 with a 15-4 win over Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday afternoon at Zinda Field.

With the win, the Athenas move to 14-2 overall on the year and stretch their win streak against conference opponents to 34 games, which includes three straight 10-0 regular seasons and two straight SCIAC Tournament titles. CMS will be able to try to win three postseason championships in a row on its home field, hosting a SCIAC Semifinal on Wednesday, May 1, and then the finals on Saturday, May 4 if it advances.

The five seniors, who haven't tasted a league defeat since the SCIAC semifinals their freshman year in 2016, were honored before the game and all earned starting assignments. Nicole Greenberg made her second start of the season in goal and had 10 saves, allowing only two goals to get the win. Carly Keeney and Maddie Geary started at attack and each had first half goals, while Eryn Rogers started on defense and was a big part of holding Pomona-Pitzer to only four goals.

Hack, meanwhile, came into the game with 197 career goals, needing a hat trick to become only the third player in school history to score 200, She took care of the milestone quickly, getting her third goal with 15:56 left in the first half on a hesitation move as she cut around a defender to the right side of the net and bounced a low shot into the lower left to put the Athenas ahead 5-1.

Hack ended up with six goals and one assist on the day, moving into a tie for second place on the CMS all-time scoring list with 203 goals with Sarah Dick. Madi Shove holds the school record with 251 goals in her four seasons.

CMS took a 10-1 lead into halftime after a dominant opening 30 minutes, behind five goals from Hack (as well as one apiece from Keeney and Geary, giving the senior class seven goals at the half). Freshman Sammie Cohen added two first-half tallies before finishing off her hat trick with 18:49 left. Freshman Tessa Guerra added two second half goals, while sophomore Eloise Shields capped off the scoring on a free position shot.

Greenberg had a big day in goal to finish with 10 saves, making five in each half, including several on free position shots, helping the Sagehens to just a 2-for-13 success rate. Juniors Kira Weiss and Zoe Ryan each had two caused turnovers to help the CMS defense in front of her.

CMS will now have 10 days off as it gears up for the postseason, when it hosts a SCIAC semifinal at Zinda Field on Wednesday, May 1 at 7 p.m.
