CMS Women's Lacrosse Begins Key Five-Day Stretch Wednesday Night at Zinda Field
CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's lacrosse team plays three games in five days in Claremont, including two of the biggest games of the year, starting with a home game with Baldwin Wallace on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
After facing Baldwin Wallace, CMS will travel across the street to face Pomona-Pitzer on Friday night at 7 p.m. in a battle of SCIAC unbeatens, with the Sagehens currently 4-0 and the Athenas at 3-0, with the winner having the inside track for the top seed in the SCIAC Tournament at the midway point of the regular season.
The busy stretch concludes on Sunday, when CMS welcomes in Colorado College on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Zinda Field. Colorado College is currently ranked No. 24 in the nation in the latest IWLCA Division III poll released yesterday, while CMS is one spot behind at No. 25. It is also a rematch of last year's NCAA Division III Second Round match-up which Colorado College won, handing the Athenas their only loss to a Division III opponent all year (their other loss was to Division I UC Davis).
The Colorado College game will also serve as the CMS SAAC Game of the Week, and the SAAC will be giving away Pepo Melo coupons at the game to students who attend.
After concluding the three-games-in-five-days stretch the Athenas will return to action next Wednesday for a home game with Chapman (rescheduled from a Feb. 27 postponement), before heading to the Northeast for a Spring Break trip to meet Montclair State and Kean in New Jersey.

• The Athenas improved to 3-0 on the year (all in SCIAC) with a 12-6 road win over Occidental on Saturday. Corie Hack led the offense with four goals, while Nicole Greenberg earned the start in goal, her first since her freshman season, and allowed two goals while making seven saves.
• CMS swept the first SCIAC weekly awards of the new season after a 2-0 opening week (a 22-7 win over Whittier on Feb. 20 and an 18-3 win over Redlands on Feb. 23), with junior Kira Weiss winning the SCIAC Defensive Player of the Week and sophomore Sally Abel taking the Offensive Player of the Week. Weiss matched her career high with six ground balls and forced five turnovers in the Redlands win, while Abel set a new career high in points at Whittier with seven on five goals and two assists.
• The Athenas currently have a tight race for the team scoring lead, with senior Corie Hack and sophomore Sally Abel tied with 14 points, and freshman Alex Futterman one behind with 13 points.

• The Athenas were picked to finish first in the SCIAC in a preseason poll of the league's coaches, after they captured the league regular season and postseason titles last year.
• The Athenas were 18-2 a year ago and were undefeated in the regular season against Division III foes. After opening with a loss to Division I UC Davis, CMS rattled off 18 wins in a row before falling in the NCAA Tournament.
• CMS has won 29 straight regular season games against Division III opponents, since an early season loss to Tufts in 2017, and has won 27 games in a row against SCIAC opponents (including four tournament games). If you consider SCIAC Tournament games part of the regular season, the CMS streak against Division III opponents is 33 games.
• Senior Corie Hack was a first-team IWLCA All-West Region selection last year, while junior Allie Hill and sophomore Sally Abel were each chosen to the second team. Hack led the Athenas with 62 goals, while Hill (28-29-57) and Abel (47-6-53) were third and fourth on the team in points.
• Junior Allie Hill joined the 100-point club with three assists in a season-opening win over Whittier. She now has 104 points, evenly split between 52 goals and 52 assists. Senior Corie Hack is closing in on the 200-point club, with 155 goals and 25 assists for 180 points, while junior Emily Cohen (66-21-87) and sophomore Sally Abel (58-9-67) project to join the 100-point club this year as well.
