Murphy and Hack Headline Four All-Region Selections
GRAND LAKE, Colo. – On Thursday morning, the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) announced their NCAA Division III All-Region teams. Among the 286 student-athletes honored nationally, were four Athenas. Corie Hack (CMC) and Evan Murphy (CMC) garnered First Team West Region honors with Allie Hill (CMC) and Sally Abel (CMC) earning Second Team accolades in the West Region. The recognition comes a week after the 2018 season came to an end in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament.
Hack's First Team All-Region honor comes on the heels of this year's SCIAC Offensive Athlete of the Year honor. Hack earns her first All-Region nod after scoring in every game this season with 15 multi-goal games, including a six-goal performance in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament. Her 62 goals in 20 games this year led the team by 15 tallies. She ended the season with 24 goals in the Athenas' final seven games, but turned in her best game of the season against Rhodes on Mar. 7, scoring a career-high seven goals to lead the Athenas to a 20-8 victory.
Joining Hack on the First Team was SCIAC Defensive Athlete of the Year and do-it-all midfielder, Evan Murphy. A versatile midfielder, Murphy earns her second-straight First Team All-Region honor after leading the Athenas with 81 points. She completed a 40-40 season in 2018, tallying 41 goals and adding 40 assists. In addition to her offensive production, the senior captain finished the season 12th in the country with 3.65 caused turnovers per game (73 total) and 31st with 4.45 ground balls per contest (89 total). She also earned 64 draw controls on the year.
Allie Hill and Sally Abel both earn their first All-Region honors after strong seasons for CMS. Midfielder Allie Hill earned her Second Team accolades for doing a little bit of everything for the Athenas this season. Hill scored 57 points this season with 28 goals and 29 assists, but also picked up 29 ground balls and earned 64 draw controls for the Athenas. Hill's best stretch of play came in the SCIAC Tournament with the sophomore scoring six goals and assisting on five more in the two-game Tournament.
Sally Abel was one of three freshman honored by the IWLCA on the All-West Region teams. Abel played a key role for the Athenas with her stellar stick skills helping her to 47 goals and a total of 53 points during her first campaign in Claremont. When Abel scored this season, she scored in bunches. The freshman attacker tallied a goal in 17 different games this season with 15 multi-goal games, including a six-goal contest against Chapman on Mar. 21.
The quartet helped the Athenas to their best winning percentage in program history with an overall record of 18-2 (.900 winning percentage). CMS won their second-straight SCIAC Championship with an 18-game winning streak highlighting the season.
