Athenas Muzzle Bulldogs with Strong Midgame Run

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The No. 20 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's lacrosse team ran away from the University of Redlands Bulldogs with a 10-goal scoring streak in the middle of the game to earn their 10th-victory of the season at 15-6. Twenty minutes of the game, CMS held a slim 4-3, after the Athenas and Bulldogs traded goals in the early going. CMS picked the scoring up, notching six consecutive goals in the final 10 minutes of the half to take a 10-3 lead into the break.

The Athenas continued the scoring trend with four-straight tallies to begin the second-half, building a 14-3 lead before Redlands connected on three of the final four goals down the stretch. Despite the Bulldogs' strong play in the final 12 minutes, the Athenas' lead was too much to overcome and CMS earned the 15-6 victory for their 10th-straight win.

Corie Hack (CMC) led the Athenas with four goals on the afternoon to lead 10 different scorers for CMS. Hack got the game started with back-to-back goals in the first 2:30 of the game before the Bulldogs and Athenas traded the next five goals over the next 15 minutes. At the end of the stretch, CMS was holding a slim 4-3 lead with 10 minutes remaining in the half.

Emily Cohen (CMC) notched an unassisted goal with 9:50 remaining in the half to start a game-changing run that lasted the next 25 minutes. Cohen's goal was quickly followed by two tallies from both Allie Hill (CMC) and Julia Mueller (SC) in the next five minutes to put CMS up 9-3.

Corie Hack capped off the half with 32 seconds left on the clock, scoring a goal off an assist from Evan Murphy (CMC) to bump the Athenas' lead to 10-3 heading into the break.

After the half, the Athenas continued their scoring streak with four more goals to begin the second period to take a 14-3 lead. During the first 15 minutes of the second-half, CMS held the Bulldogs scoreless while registering goals from Hack, Lauren Clubb (CMC), Murphy, and Mia Prine (CMC).

Redlands attempted a late comeback, scoring three of the final four goals of the game, but the Athenas held on for the 15-6 victory.

With the victory, CMS moves to 10-1 on the season and extends their win-streak to 10 games. The Athenas will next be in action on Wednesday when they host George Fox at 7:00 p.m. on Zinda Field.
