Athenas Dominate Sixth Street Showdown

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's lacrosse team dominated the field on Saturday night across the street at Pomona-Pitzer. Five Athenas scored multiple goals in a 15-5 win victory for the Athenas. Corie Hack (CMC) led the offensive effort for the Athenas with four goals on the evening as the Athenas improve to 2-0 in the SCIAC. CMS outshot the Sagehens 32-12 in the contest.

The Athenas got things started with a goal by Lauren Clubb (CMC) in the first minute of the game. CMS added five more goals over the course of the half, including three in the final 8:10 of the half. The Athenas shared the scoring across six different players. In addition to Clubb's goal, Evan Murphy (CMC), Allie Hill (CMC), Corie Hack (CMC), Sally Abel (CMC), and Sally Carlson (CMC) all found the back of the cage to take a 6-0 lead into the half.

The scoring streak continued into the early minutes of the second-half when the Athenas added three more to take a 9-0 lead less than five minutes into the half. Hack, Blaire Southmayd (CMC), Murphy connected on the three goals, before Pomona-Pitzer got on the board to make it 9-1 early in the half.

CMS then rattled off three more goals to take a 12-1 lead 10 minutes into the half. The Sagehens scored four of the next six goals to make it 14-5, but it was too little too late and CMS closed out the game with a tally from Corrie hack to claim the 15-5 victory.

A total of eight different players scored goals for the Athenas in the victory and Sara Reid (CMC) made three saves between the pipes.

The Athenas continue their road stretch with a trip to Whittier on Saturday morning. Game time slated for 11:00 a.m. against the Poets on Mar. 3.
