Pinczower nets season-high five goals in Chapman blowout

ORANGE, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's lacrosse team cruised to another lopsided victory to maintain its undefeated record in SCIAC play, defeating Chapman University 20-1. The Athenas (13-1, 9-0) have been dominant as of late, outscoring their last three opponents by a combined total of 58-9. The Panthers (10-5, 7-2) were overwhelmed in nearly every statistical category, getting outshot by CMS 36-7, and having 10 more turnovers.

Senior Zoe Pinczower (CMC) scored a season-high five goals against the Panthers (10-5, 7-2) while junior Lauren Clubb (CMC) added four goals. Freshman Emily Cohen (CMC) made plays on both sides of the field, scoring three goals and causing a team-high four turnovers, and senior Cara Cancelmo (CMC) had three assists and three caused turnovers.

Pinczower used her speed to open up the Panthers' defense as her opponents struggled to keep her marked. The senior scored twice on solo attempts to put the Athenas on the board early in the game before Clubb added a third off an assist from sophomore Corie Hack (CMC) with 19:43 left in the half. The Athenas continued to dominate possession and refused to give Chapman clean looks at goal. Throughout the first half, six different Athenas found the net to give CMS a 12-0 lead going into the break.

Junior Evan Murphy (CMC) opened up the scoring for the second half in less than a minute and later assisted freshman Emma Johnson (SC) to extend the lead to 14-0. CMS continued to control the ball on offense and went on to add five more goals before Chapman finally got on board with 5:44 left in the game with a goal by Becka Wachtel. The goal came too late for Chapman as the deficit created by CMS was already too large.

The Athenas will return home for their final game of the regular season, hosting Occidental College (11-14, 5-4) this Saturday, April 22 at 1 p.m. The team will be hosting Senior Day to honor Oona Pritchard (CMC), Theresa Wechsler (CMC), Pinczower, and Cancelmo.
