Athenas stymie Puget Sound and earn rare shutout win

CLAREMONT, Calif. – Just days after defeating Northwest Conference foe Whitman 17-2, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's lacrosse team put together another dominant win, this time a 20-0 shutout of Puget Sound March 17 on Zinda Field.

This is the first time that CMS (6-2, 3-1 SCIAC) has registered a shutout since head coach Lauren Uhr took over the program for the 2015 season.

Senior goalie Kate Anello (CMC) was in net and the CMS defense allowed just one shot all night. Sophomore midfielder Ellen Berkley (CMC) scored the first goal for CMS 22 seconds into the match on a free position shot and CMS went ahead 5-0 on her second goal, just under five minutes into the match. CMS led 16-0 at halftime.

A total of 11 different Athenas scored in the match. Sophomore Katie Hill (CMC), sophomore midfielder Mikaela Connell (CMC) and Berkley led CMS with three goals apiece. Sophomore attacker Kendall Greenberg (CMC) and sophomore midfielder Lauren Clubb (CMC) were tops on the team in assists with three each and Berkley recovered five ground balls.
