Lacrosse faces Redlands in SCIAC Championships

CLAREMONT, Calif. – At the conclusion of the regular season games, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps lacrosse team ended up in a three-way tie for third place with a 5-5 conference record and is the fifth seed going into the SCIAC Championships.

All six SCIAC teams participate in the championships with the No. 1 and 2 seeds, Pomona-Pitzer and Occidental, receiving a bye for the first round. No. 3 seed Chapman hosts No. 6 seed Whittier and the No. 5 seed Athenas face No. 4 Redlands on Wednesday night at Redlands. This season, Redlands has taken both games from CMS. At home, Redlands pulled out a 15-13 overtime victory and then at Redlands, the Bulldogs nabbed the 15-9 win.

The Athenas are led by freshman Lauren Clubb (CMC) with 36 points including 16 assists. Four CMS players are tied with 20 goals each on the season: Clubb, junior Christina Coffin (CMC), freshman Mikaela Connell (CMC), and freshman Ellen Berkley (CMC). In goal, junior Kate Anello (CMC) has 62 saves on the season with a 35.6% save percentage and all eight of CMS' wins.

Redlands is tied for the most goals in conference with 122 on the season. Junior Stephanie Garrett leads the Bulldogs with 35 goals followed closely by Dulce Moll with 24. The Bulldogs rely on a pair of goalkeepers, as sophomore Gigja Hollyday and freshman Quinn Egan have amassed more than 300 minutes each against conference opponents.
