CLAREMONT, Calif. – A free position goal by sophomore midfielder Cara Cancelmo (CMC) just under two minutes into overtime gave the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's lacrosse team an 8-7 win at Pomona-Pitzer on Feb. 28 in SCIAC play. With the win, CMS is now 4-0 on the young season, 3-0 in conference matches. The win was CMS' first over Pomona-Pitzer since April 17, 2013 when CMS won 7-6.

With just under 11 minutes remaining in regulation, CMS looked as if it had taken control of the match after a 3-0 run capped off by a goal by freshman midfielder Ellen Berkley (CMC) gave CMS a 7-4 lead. Over the next 10 minutes, Pomona-Pitzer showed a balanced offensive attack as three different players (Rebecca Long, Katie Savino and Grace Geller) scored a goal to tie it up at 7-7. Geller's goal came with 1:16 left. CMS junior Kate Anello (CMC) came up with a save on a last-ditch, game-winning shot attempt by Pomona-Pitzer with two seconds remaining.

The two teams were tied 3-3 at halftime and 4-4 early in the second half.

Freshman attacker Lauren Clubb (CMC) had a team-high three goals for CMS while Berkley and junior midfielder Molly O'Donnell (CMC) each had two scores. In addition to her save at the end of regulation, Anello came up big all day with a season-high 12 saves. Junior attacker Christina Coffin (CMC) had two assists for CMS.
