Women’s lacrosse gets comeback win in SCIAC, season-opener

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's lacrosse team won 12-10, in comeback fashion against Occidental College in the SCIAC and season-opener at Zinda Field on Feb. 18. The win was also the first for head coach Lauren Uhr in her first game back to CMS.

In the final 10 minutes before halftime, Occidental scored a pair of goals and turned a 4-4 game into a 6-4 lead at the break. Occidental continued to hold a two-score lead just over four minutes into the second half, but CMS answered with three-straight goals to take a 9-8 lead with 19:21 to go. The two teams traded scores for the next several minutes. With the game tied at 10-10 with two minutes left, Lauren Clubb (CMC) scored from a free position shot to give CMS an 11-10 lead. CMS then held on for the 12-10 win.

The Athenas had a balanced attack on offense with four players scoring two goals (Tarah Gilbreth -CMC, Christina Coffin - CMC, Molly O'Donnell - CMC, and Ellie Dolan - SCR). Occidental's Beebe Sanders led all players with three goals.
