Athenas lose a hard fought match to Sagehens

Claremont, Calif. – The Athenas' win streak came to an end on Saturday as they lost to the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens.  The Athenas fought hard throughout the game but in the second half could not overcome the deficit that had been created in the first half.

The first goal of the game came from the Sagehens and was scored by freshman Hannah Christenson.  The Athenas answered back in just over three minutes with a goal by sophomore Molly O'Donnell.  However, after that the Sagehens went on a 6-2 run to finish out the first half led by four goals from sophomore Sarah Markowitz.

The Athenas started the second half down 7-3 and were able to limit the scoring of the Sagehens to only four more goals in the second half.  Unfortunately, the Athenas had some trouble scoring as they only added two more goals themselves in the second half for a final score of 11-5.

The Athenas were led by sophomore Izzy Laterzo who had two goals.  The Athenas are now 9-4 overall, and 2-4 in SCIAC.

The Sagehens were led by Sarah Markowitz who had five goals.

The Athenas next take the field on Wednesday, April 9 at the University of Redlands at 7:00 PM.
