Lacrosse Teams Meet With Hall Of Famer Lyons

The CMS Women's Lacrosse team and the Five "C" Men's Lacrosse Club were invited to meet Chief Oren Lyons and to hear him speak on April 17 at Garrison Theater.  Chief Lyons is noted as being one of the best goalies for the Syracuse Men's Lacrosse program and is the first Native American to be in the Lacrosse Hall of Fame. He is the renowned faithkeeper and traditional chief for the Onondaga Nation, Iroquois Confederacy.  He is professor emeritus of American Studies at the State University of New York, Buffalo. Chief Lyons spoke on the "The Doctrine of Discovery and a Value Change for Survival: The Politics of Religion, Native Nations and Nature." There was a special guest performance by Grammy Award Winner Joanne Shenandoah. The closing blessings were given by California Spiritual and Ceremonial Leaders, Elders Roberjohn Knapp and Chief Ron Alec.
