CMS Falls At Occidental In Women's Lacrosse

LOS ANGELES, CA – The Athenas dropped their second straight game, this time on the road, against Occidental, by the score of 14-9. The loss comes on the heels of a crushing one-goal defeat this past Saturday against the Bulldogs of Redlands University.

The Athenas struck first on a goal from senior defender Jane Eberts in the opening minutes. The Tigers, however scored four of the next five, including two from Haley Gandsey, and took a 6-4 lead going in to the break.

On their home field, the Tigers came out in the second half extremely sharp and dominant. They scored the first five goals of the second to take a commanding 11-4 lead that the Athenas simply could not climb out of.

Back-to-back goals for CMS cut the lead to 14-9 with 6:09 left, but both goaltenders stiffened up. The teams went scoreless for the remainder of the contest.

Athenas' leading scorer Madi Shove tallied three more to put her season total up to 16.

CMS (2-2, 2-2 SCIAC) take a break from conference play, beginning a seven game non-conference stretch including three games across the country in Florida in the national "Spring Fling" tournament. The Athenas look to bounce back Sunday afternoon against the Adrian College Bulldogs (0-0), who open their season on the west coast against three SCIAC opponents.
