Athenas Pick Up Conference Win Over Rival Sagehens

CLAREMONT, CA – A real strong performance from the CMS Athenas women's lacrosse Saturday propelled them to a victory over their rivals the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens in the first conference game of the season with a 19-8 win. The win gives the Athenas their first official win of the year, after winning two exhibition games the last ten days.

Both teams came of strong in the first few minutes alternating the first two goals of the game. After that, the Athenas took the lead and never gave it up.

The Athenas totaled 19 goals; eight came from Madi Shove and Ali Abramovitz who each had four apiece.  Goalkeeper Madeliene Hurlbut also had a great performance with numerous clutch saves in open play as well as off free shots.

Overall the CMS Athenas flexed their muscle today outscoring the Sagehens 19-8. The Athenas (1-0, 1-0 SCIAC) do battle next against the Whittier Poets (0-0, 0-0 SCIAC) this Wednesday before returning home to face Redlands (0-0, 0-0 SCIAC) next Saturday. Meanwhile, the Sagehens (0-1, 0-1 SCIAC) have the week off before playing Whittier as well, at home next Saturday.
