Athenas Win Again, Ready for SCIAC Play

ORANGE, CA – The Athenas put together another impressive performance in their final scrimmage of the season, putting away the Chapman Panthers 15-7 at Ernie Chapman Stadium Wednesday. The Athenas put up victories both of their pre-season scrimmages, as the win over Chapman follows the victory last week against the UCLA Bruins.

The Panthers struck first, as freshman Christina Bell beat freshman goalie Madeleine Hurlbut a little over a minute into the action, but the Athenas dominated the rest of the half.  Six straight goals, including three from junior midfielder Madi Shove, put the Athenas in commanding control at halftime with a 7-2 advantage.

Shove put through four more in the second-half for a game-high seven goals, and the Athenas cruised to a 15-7 victory. Attackers Rachel Darby and Anthea Weixel both scored twice as well.

Abbey Messmer lead the Panthers with two goals in defeat.

The Athenas (0-0) open the conference season this Saturday at home against their cross-campus rivals, the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens (0-0) on Zinda Field. Game begins at 1:00 pm.
